Lay your problems on my knee, maybe you can comfort me, rollin' all around as you lay sleeping, trying to make some sense out of it all, hopeful with the changing of the seasons, lost again when snow began to fall I don't know the reasons why I do things, don't have the answers much at all, promise you I'll always be there, baby, lay your problems on my knee, on my knee and I'll stay a little longer, while you drift gently into dreams, gonna love you just a little but stronger, one day you might have to count on me, you can count on me! oh, count on me, the picture in the book reveals the meaning, go ahead explain it all to me, I promise you I'll aways be there, that's the type of friend that I can be, I can be, I promise you I'll always be there, baby lay your problems on my knee

Hurtin' Too 04:00
You woke me up at three A M just to asked me how I’ve been toss and turn and wonder when you’ll take me back again Just when I start catchin’ on, you go and leave me cold Feelin’ like a little boy, not doin’ as I’m told Guess I’m still not over you, I can’t help but call, Of all the girls I’ve loved and lost, I’ve loved you most of all, I don’t need no restaurants and I don’t need no quick response I just need to know you’re hurtin’ too. I need to know that you lay awake all night and that the thought of movin’ on still fills you up with fright I need to know, baby that you’re frettin’ too, mullin’ it all over, only gettin’ more confused Woke me up and got me dress and sent me on my way, left to wonder is there something left unsaid I don’t no street parade, all up and down Esplanade, I just need to know you’re hurtin’ too.

hang on to your hat, when the wind starts blowin' hike up your pants, when the floods start flowin' forget everything, that you thought you was knowin' I'm like a chop stick beatin' on aluminum can, hollerin' get your 'tention since the world began six times seven, baby, forty-two whatcha gonna do, little mama when I come for you? when I come for you, six times seven makes me forty-two You're mean and evil when I call your name, friends all tell me that we're too much the same, you said it's over but you're lettin' me, so come on mama, let the games begin, let the games begin, you said it's over baby, but you're lettin' me in 'lectric fan, I'll be your ragin' gail, your gentle breeze when you set sail life preserver in the stormy seas, come on mama, come see about me, come see about me, I'll be your, be your, life preserver, baby in the stormy seas Work for your baby seven days a week, do you have something that you're to teach, who the devil of which you speak, because you're foolin' 'round baby with my freedom of speech, of with my freedom of speech, do you have something, baby, that you're trying to teach? They say you're a seven, I see at least an eight, want the keys to your penthouse, give me the code to your gate, mama, mama, let's get one thing straight, I'm a fool for your love, Baby, I accept my fate, I accept my fate, keys to your penthouse, give me the code to your gate, hang on to your hat, when the wind starts blowin' hike up your pants, when the floods start flowin' forget everything, that you thought you was knowin'

Wish I were a better man, I don't do the things I should I really love you and I'm not sure I'll find another, but what for if I can't be true? baby I'm a fool for you so what more could I do? I need that smile on your face, I need your grit and I need your grace, and I need your warm embrace that's why I'm trying to make you see, the tender side of me, you my love could set you free? please don't refuse, keep stringin' me along, it's you I choose, with you right or wrong Will I really make it on my own? I feel so all alone, after everything I've tried, way down deep inside, I'm still scared that I'm losin' you wanna reach for you, so far out of town please don't refuse, keep stringin' me along, it's you I choose, you know my love it strong and I know I'm not that bad, and you're the best I've ever had leavin' me behind, hurt me one more time, just tell it was love that you put me through If you refuse, I'll write a song about it, I'll play the blues, in fact I'm gonna shout it that's why I'm trying to make you see, the tender side of me, you my love could set you free? I need that smile on your face, I need your grit and I need your grace, and I need your warm embrace please don't refuse, keep stringin' me along, it's you I choose, you know my love it strong If you refuse, I'll write a song about it, I'll play the blues, in fact I'm gonna shout it

My life in bars, with jukebox changes, No more drinking straws, no more dusty stages, Just my thoughts on you, and one more whiskey, mopping up around me and I got no place to go, The world outside, can pass me by now, The life I know is on the other side, The lights come on, a slow song’s playin’ Napkin with your number, rock glass on the bar, All that i can offer you is the promise of tomorrow, The problems I’ve been fleein’ won’t be far behind I know I should walk away, baby it ain’t my style Mistake myself for loneliness sometimes My life in bars, with juke box changes, Napkin with your number, please pick up your phone

Your mind says yes, your mouth says no, wondering when you lost control, cold feet, lost faith, you start fade, wondering what you might have said, ain't no ease in a worried mind, busy days and lonely nights, didn't have time when your schedule was full, for thoughts that chill you to the bone, chill you to the bone, didn't have time when your schedule was full then she slips in through the door, the one you thought you'd seen before, leather pants, hair tied high, ain't no harm in sayin' hi taking on the world in ways that you might never do again, knowing if you fall or stumble, you've got someone to lean on, so many nights that you've stewed upon the choices that you've made, never taking time to count all the blessing you have had somehow we're gonna see it through, don't know what you're runnning too, if you will not let me in, don't get into my head again into my head again if you will not let me in, don't get into my head again taking on the world in ways that you might never do again, knowing if you fall or stumble, you've got someone to lean on, so many nights that you've stewed upon the choices that you've made, never taking time to count all the blessing you have had somehow we're gonna see it through, don't know what you're runnning too, if you will not let me in, don't get into my head again into my head again if you will not let me in, don't get into my head again

Down Below 04:32
On a street named Frederick Douglas in the setting of the sun The sounds of distant laughter, children having fun Past the trash cans and recycling I go hiking up to Edgecomb, where the wind blows Nobody knows, Up above the rocks and cliffs, Giant bird, she make her nest soaring o’er the city down below Down below, down below, the world is always spinning down below I was here before the condos came, Watched in wonder as the blighted bricks came tumbling down Making such mournful sound, runnin’ from the wreckin’ ball Brand new buildings made of glass and steel, They cannot reflect the way I feel, When I see my reflection in just about every direction now Down below, down below, the world is always spinning down below Down below, down below, the world is always spinning down below The world is always changing, ever re-arranging, Things you know just ain’t there no more I don’t see the signs or the place I had in mind All of them are buried down below Down below, down below, the world is always spinning down below Down below, down below, the world is always spinning down below

Ella Speed 02:50
First time I shot Ella, I shot her in the side, second time I could not quite tell where The third time I shot Ella, I shot her in the head, that must have been the shot, that killed poor Ella dead Ella Speed went out, just to have some fun, got shot down with my colt forty-one I pulled out my piston and I held it in my hand little girl I'm gonna make you understand, I saw her dancing with her new man on the floor Ella Speed don't do me that way no more, two white horses tied to a rubber tire hack, seven women going down to the graveyard, six of 'em coming back when they heard the news that Ella Speed was dead, everybody dressed up in red two white horses riding side by side, gonna take Ella on her last carriage ride, last thing she said, just before she died, little sister don't you do like me, don't get mixed up with no crazy man, any old crazy man that you see.

Big Thing 03:18
always tell the truth and never lie smile everyday, even if you have to try say hello to everyone you see, that was such a big thing for me, wash your hands and take some time to breath, don't forget to say your thank yous and your please, never forget that you are free, that was such a big thing to me, that was such a big thing to me, i reached a turning point, I didn't want to see, taking care of someone else, unselfishly that was such a big thing for me, trust your heart and listen to your mind, living don't get easier with time, still, you'll find some truths along the way stay your course no matter what they say, that was such a big thing to me, i reached a turning point, I didn't want to see, taking care of someone else, unselfishly that was such a big thing for me,
10.
If I could see one more picture of you, one more moment of truth, one more warm embrace, one more expression on your face, on your face, one more expression on your face Spent my life caged in crippling fear, afraid that I would disappear afraid to love, afraid to lose, afraid of meeting someone just like you just like you, afraid of meeting someone just like you Hang back after the bars have closed, say goodbye real slow, wouldn't want to keep you on your toes, give me one smile 'fore you go, 'fore you go, give me one smile 'fore you go, If I could see one more picture of you, one more moment of truth, one more warm embrace, one more expression on your face, on your face, one more expression on your face Hang back after the bars have closed, say goodbye real slow, wouldn't want to keep you on your toes, give me one smile 'fore you go, 'fore you go, give me one smile 'fore you go,

about

Love and loss in the time of Covid 19! What a blessing it was to have a collection of new songs to record during this crazy year. It kept all of The Thousandaires a little more grounded. We're really proud of these songs and the way they came together at the studio.

about

Ted Hefko and The Thousandaires New Orleans, Louisiana

Ted Hefko & The Thousandaires stir up an intoxicating brew of the profound and the profane, of virtue and vice and most importantly the volatile in-between. Ted’s songs explore hope and hustlers, saints and strays, drifters and the down-and-out. The band brings these stories to life with the spontaneity of jazz, and the rough-hewn, bare-bones tone of backwoods rhythm and bllues. ... more
