about

I have flashbulb memory of buying some fruit from truck along the road in New Orleans in about 1998. The farmer tells me that The Empire State building will be lit up blue because Frank Sinatra has died. I got back on my bike and headed to rehearsal with this song in my head. It was for Frank. It was pretty complete at the time but it didn't fit into musical projects I was involved in. It fit perfectly on this album more than ten years later.

lyrics

This song won't sound the same if we play it again,
And we can't fall in love all over again,
The second time you hear a story, baby that ain't new,
And the only song that bears repeatin', is know as the blues

1st x
This song won't sound the same in some other key,
Next time you fall, it won't be for me,
There'll be songs to sing that you don't get to choose,
'Cause the only song that bears repeatin' is known as the blues

2nd x
We wrote a song of love between you and me,
Captured our dreams in a melody,
We tried to sing together as long as we could,
But now this theme must end as any tune should,
The only song that bears repeatin' is known as the blues

about

Ted Hefko and The Thousandaires New Orleans, Louisiana

Ted Hefko & The Thousandaires stir up an intoxicating brew of the profound and the profane, of virtue and vice and most importantly the volatile in-between. Ted’s songs explore hope and hustlers, saints and strays, drifters and the down-and-out. The band brings these stories to life with the spontaneity of jazz, and the rough-hewn, bare-bones tone of backwoods rhythm and bllues. ... more
