If I walked on water would you sail on back to me, If I phoned you from the jail house would you set me free, If I moved mountains, If I parted seas, Would you let me love, babe I'm beggin' please If the season shift and blackbirds fill the air, If locust swarms leave your wheat fields bare, If there sowed with salt and still a flower grows, Would you let me linger, would you be my rose If the clock stood still, and the walls began to shake, If the stars came down, and the heavens took a break, Where there's light, there must be dark, Would you be my lady on my brand new ark Don't hear those records playin' Don't hear what the singer's sayin' We can't stop thunder and we can't stop rain, and I can't stop tuggin on your apron strings

It's Cold In Here (2x) From the bottom of my feet to the tips of my ears, It's Cold in here Baby please come home (2x) You know the South creeps in when you're on the phone, and it keeps me warm Early in the morning when I'm tryin' to sleep makin' al your dresser drawers slam and squeak, I like the way you move, I like the way you talk, I like your high heels on the floor boards going pawk pawk pawk, It's cold in here (2x) but the South creeps in when you're on the phone and it keeps me warm, baby and it keeps me warm, and keeps me warm

1. You've had too much freedom, You can't be fenced in To the world your naked, Crawlin' out of your skin It's a sin to hold high and a shame to give in The future's brighter, but the outcome is grim 2. Is this your idea of lonely, gettin lost in the crowd You're whispering softly, cause you've been talkin' too loud You live for the moment baby that's been you're plan Stood tall and stony, when the time came you ran Ch. You've got to take steps, If you want to get started, You've gotta take steps, If you wanna get started, You've gotta take steps, steps, steps, steps, steps If you wanna get started, If you wanna get started 3. In the land of indecision, slippin' through the seams, Too many new direction, too many dreams, Drowning in ideas, but you don't have the means, Too much rice, and not enough beans Ch. 4. You may stall, or you may stumble You might fall, or even fumble, You say you don't mean to be so fatalistic, But you can't help feeling like somehow you missed it Ch.
4.
The Blues have over taken me, The Green aren't coming in, The Reds and Pinks make my heart sink, Cause I"m lonesome once again, I Got Purple heart for bravery, Red badge for Courage, Aren't you green with envy, Ain't nothing left but Orange, Catchin' Yellow fever, Sometimes Scarlet too, Sortin' through the rainbow and never finding you, So take out your Crayolas and color me blue
5.
Verse 1 Movin in and movin out, still got more junk than I've throw'd out, How many time have I asked myself "Is this something we could use?" Starin at the barren floor, and I can barely shut the door, It's just so hard to choose between these boxes and these blues Verse 2 It used to be, it used to be, you standing, starin back at me, Now those days are gone, you're just a number and a name, A smilin' voice without a face, a memory I can't erase, and though you're in some distant place, I think of you Ch. and My Greyhound Coach is comin, I can almost hear it humming Baby I'm coming back to you, That's I'm picking up the pieces when this long dark winter ceases, And the bright warmth of spring days is here Verse 3 I've talked all I can talk and I've said all I can say, My lips are sick of speaking so I'm trying to take a break from the telephone, Paint me a picture baby, drop me a line, Not sure if I can answer, but rest assured I'm fine (and I'm comin' home) Ch.

Trust My Gut 06:08
Don't know how to stop and I can't get started, I feel like I'm just standin' in one place, The road ahead remains uncharted, And I got know time for saving face Gotta make a change to stay in motion, Gotta get some other point of view, A brand new take and a brand new notion, If I want my vision to come through, I may get cross and I may be crazy, May get lost, but I sure ain't lazy, I checked my pulse and reviewed my ruling, And I still believe my judgement to be sound, Ch. I just gotta Trust my gut Gotta Trust my gut, Trust gut, Till the day that they lock me up Tucamcari New Mexico, Twenty Dollar room, Eatin' Cheerios is the grocery store parking lot, Be in San Diego soon, Pickin' tunes and passin' jars Holdin' Court in the afterbars Sleepin' bags on a motel floor and you're back on the road again Road to Austin, Texas on the Amtrack train, Made it to Atlanta in the pouring rain, Lack of vision nearly drove me insane, But never gave up on hope Ch. Oh Lord take a look at me, How did I end up this way, Tell me what I got to give and what I got to take, I've been edged out, I've been boxed in I've been lost without a trace, Had my share of success and my share of saving face, I'm a saint and a sinner too, Sing songs till the singing's through And I don't care what anybody say, I tried workin for the man but the man don't pay Ch. Oh Lord take a look at me, Runnin' all around this rock Wore through my soles and my Doctor Sholes, Now I'm startin' in on the socks Long before I started payin' dues, Bound to skip a record when I heard the blues, Light on experience so I took my cues from the songs that needle played Now I find myself in New York City Sometimes I wonder why, Staring out the window at a brick wall Wondering if it's worth a try Ch.

This song won't sound the same if we play it again, And we can't fall in love all over again, The second time you hear a story, baby that ain't new, And the only song that bears repeatin', is know as the blues 1st x This song won't sound the same in some other key, Next time you fall, it won't be for me, There'll be songs to sing that you don't get to choose, 'Cause the only song that bears repeatin' is known as the blues 2nd x We wrote a song of love between you and me, Captured our dreams in a melody, We tried to sing together as long as we could, But now this theme must end as any tune should, The only song that bears repeatin' is known as the blues

If it's got four wheels, get on the train and ride, In the early, early morning, especially if it's late at night, If it's got four wheels, a conductor in the booth, You can wait on the express, but it may not be no use, If it's got four wheels, get on the train and ride Whether by Long Island Railroad, or the Harlem Line, Even The Path Train to the other side, Much has been made of the ideal connection, Isn't enough your headed in the right direction, If it's got four wheels, get on the train and ride If it's three a m and you feel a rumblin' in the floor, Here comes the trash train, still you want to try and board, You know it passes your stop but you see no where to hide, Amble back toward the bench, and regret you didn't try If it's got four wheels, get on the train and ride They'll be crowded in the morning, worse in the afternoon, If there ain't no empty seat, that don't mean there ain't no room, Though you might be cramming just a little bit, If the door pries open, better squeeze a fit It it's got four wheels, get on the train and ride Subway system, subway platform, subway cars, Moving forward, moving slowly, getting far, Two steps forward, one step back, The Brooklyn bounds trains on the uptown track, If it's got four wheels, get on the train and ride To be on your way, brings a certain piece of mind, So hop on board, leave your troubles behind, Though it rocks when it rolls, though it shakes a bit, The MTA'll get you where you need to get, If it's got four wheels, come on and hop on board

about

If I Walked on Water was my second all original album. It was a more cohesive work that Egyptland, because we recorded all the songs with same rhythm section in the same studio. These songs came together quickly once I got going. I remember spreading lyrics all over the floor of my apartment in Brooklyn, cutting them up and taping them back together in different orders. That would have been in fall of 2010. The recording session was in January, and the record was released in late summer.

The band featured Moses Patrou on drums and piano, Luca Benedetti on guitar and Scott Ritchie on Bass - all first call guys in New York with lots of other projects under their belts. It was great quartet and I'm glad I had a chance to capture it on tape.

about

Ted Hefko and The Thousandaires New Orleans, Louisiana

Ted Hefko & The Thousandaires stir up an intoxicating brew of the profound and the profane, of virtue and vice and most importantly the volatile in-between. Ted’s songs explore hope and hustlers, saints and strays, drifters and the down-and-out. The band brings these stories to life with the spontaneity of jazz, and the rough-hewn, bare-bones tone of backwoods rhythm and bllues. ... more
